Christmas Update

Greetings!

The time has come for CHRISTMAS WEEK. We start today! However, the 6th grade will start tomorrow due to an assignment they have to complete.

8th grade: They will be reading The Polar Express and be focusing on literary elements of imagery, theme, figurative language, ext.. Thursday they will walk to Barb's shop for a Book Club activity so please remember to sign the permission slips! Friday we will be having our masa! Thank you for those who have already bought their items. If you wish not to participate, just let me know, not a big deal! Also, we will be revealing our Secret Santa Friday too. I am positive your child has informed you of this.

7th grade: They will be reading a 6 scene play based around A Christmas Carol. This play allows the students to do a lot of literary devices such how the dialogue and actions of the characters affect theme, characterization (direct and indirect), character development, foreshadowing, and the list goes on! Today they will read the first scene and make a tombstone that will symbolize Scrooge. They will also be using examples in the play that describes Scrooge's personality type. We will save this to compare and contrast at the end of the play and decide how his character develops over the play.

6th grade: Tomorrow they will start on How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This is a great book for characterization and character development. We will also continue to work with theme, imagery, and figurative language. Friday will be the exciting day. I will be preparing for a Who-ba-lation! In class we have a celebration all based around our book. All the games we play will be based around literary devices. It was so fun last year!

Recently the kids participated in Hour of Code and the Geo-Bee. Here are some picture updates on what the kiddos are doing.

The 8th grade is painting their Sugar Skull masks. These masks are a symbol of celebration in the Mexican culture.

My room was the coding room. Here students are programming their own game.

Congratulation to all the students who made it to the final round of the Bee! Everyone did a great job.

My little babes getting ready for the Christmas concert.

Today the Knights of Columbus will be coming to award the winning essay to one of the 8th grade students. They wrote essays for the Knights of Columbus Essay Contest in November.

Next Tuesday, the 22nd, will be the last day before break. The students WILL need to bring a sack lunch. Of course, parents are welcome for the school Christmas carol singing that will take place at 12:30. This day is also a Spirit Day.
