Anti-Bullying Week

Image
Stomp out Bullying Week! The students have had activities on Monday, Wednesday, and today. Monday they all watched a movie about how to handle a bullying situation and what characteristics can make up a bully. On Wednesday they got into groups to create a skit about handling a bullying situation whether it is on the internet, at school, or at a sporting event outside of school. Today they will present their skits in front of K-2 grades. Afterward, the students will help the younger students write what they will do to help "Stomp out Bullying" on a foot then post it up in the school. They had great ideas and all worked well with one another. I am very proud. Here are pictures of the kids from my room.

Students to Teachers

This week I wanted to have creative lessons that engaged the students. What better way to do that than have the students become the teachers! For the 6th grade I paired them up and gave them a topic that we learned in the poetry unit. They were to reteach it as a review and have an activity for the other students to do. Let me tell you, I learned a lot and now have a lot of ideas to use as activities. These kids are brilliant! Here are pictures of the 6th grade, sorry I don't have all of the kids!  Mr. Burg and Miss Sickels created a fun activity by asking comprehension questions and playing basketball. Miss Hagen and Mr. Smith decided to go with a rap song. Yes, they do have pillows under their sweatshirts to give them some "fluff".  Miss Britten and Miss Mullin created a poster to explain their topic.  Mr. Wallace and Miss Eblen also went with the poster route.    Miss Pryor and Miss Myers hide their topic throughout the room to have the o

Free Verse

The 8th grade had to write a free verse poem about any subject. I had them record their poems onto their computer and upload it to the blabberize website. Here is the end product. We did a "gallery"walk to each of the girls' laptop and snapped when their poem was done. We snap instead of clap, similar to a poetry slam. Enjoy. : ) http://blabberize.com/view/id/ 1242782   Tessa http://blabberize.com/view/id/ 1242778   Micha http://blabberize.com/view/id/ 1242786   Grace http://blabberize.com/view/id/ 1242784   Laura The other poems wouldn't upload.

7th Grade Haiku Scrolls

Since the Japanese traditionally wrote their poems on scrolls, the 7th grade follow suit. Here is the end project. I am so happy and proud to see the creativity! From left to right, Ayden, Beau, Spencer, Hannah From left to right, Ellie, Danika, Payton, Sydney  Ayden's Haiku.

Haikus!

All three grades are/will be learning about Japanese poems called Haikus. Haikus are generally about nature and have the form of 5:7:5. 5 syllables on the first line, 7 syllables on the second line, and 5 syllables on the third line to have a total of 17 syllables in the whole poem. The sixth grade made Haiku tunnels. Here are a few pictures of the tunnels. The back of the tunnel is a picture of what the student wrote their Haiku about. They were to have two 3-D elements in their tunnel to match their picture. The first card is the title followed by the first, second and third lines of the Haiku. Notice the bear's 3-D ears and feet? How cute! All of the 6th grade's tunnels, just in case they don't make it home. They are so cool so I hope all of you parents can see them! 7th Grade: This class is in the process of creating their Haiku. They took notes yesterday and today they are water painting their scroll, which is what the Japanese traditionally

A week in review

Hello parents! I hope you are all staying warm and out of the ditches. Dang snow.  8th grade: These little kittens just wrapped up reading a play about Anne Frank. They all were very interested in her life story and the Holocaust. We had a lot of fun learning about this topic. The girls were to make a "movie" trailer based off of the play. Have them show you! They are all very creative and were fun to watch. They are not preparing for their unit test that will happen next week. The next unit will be poetry.  In art we are making paper mache masks. We were sure how we were going to decorate them until we talked about Ash Wednesday and Lent which lead me to Mardi Gras! We will be learning a little bit about Mardi Gras and the designs for this celebration. The girls can get inspired to paint their masks based off what they learned. Here is a few photos of the masks being made. Aren't they pretty. :)  I am still accepting donations for the auction basket. I have
