A week in review

Hello parents! I hope you are all staying warm and out of the ditches. Dang snow.

8th grade: These little kittens just wrapped up reading a play about Anne Frank. They all were very interested in her life story and the Holocaust. We had a lot of fun learning about this topic. The girls were to make a "movie" trailer based off of the play. Have them show you! They are all very creative and were fun to watch. They are not preparing for their unit test that will happen next week. The next unit will be poetry.

In art we are making paper mache masks. We were sure how we were going to decorate them until we talked about Ash Wednesday and Lent which lead me to Mardi Gras! We will be learning a little bit about Mardi Gras and the designs for this celebration. The girls can get inspired to paint their masks based off what they learned. Here is a few photos of the masks being made. Aren't they pretty. :)

I am still accepting donations for the auction basket. I have received some money, a bag, and soon to be gift cards. All donations are appreciated! The fire pit is in! I had the girls do a "team building" exercise by having the girls put the pit together. It looks fabulous. We will be painting the tiles next week and it will be ready for the auction!

7th grade: We are on our way in the poetry unit. So far so good. I haven't heard too many groans yet. We analyzed a poem today together called "Scaffolding". They all saw there was an Edgar Allan Poe, their favorite! Seriously!!, poem next it and were VERY upset we were not reading that poem. That is when I heard the most groans. Little did they know, I prepared a worksheet that analyzed "Annabel Lee" by Poe. They had to analyze the form, rhyming scheme, find synonyms, and answer comprehension questions. Their assignment was to listen to the Stevie Nicks song, Annabel Lee, and write two paragraphs comparing the song to the poem. Some did not like the song, others did!

6th grade: This class also started their poetry unit. They just completed a poem about an extra curricular activity they participate in. The poem had to include four stanzas and have three forms of figurative language. They were good! I have them in their folders for conferences. They researched the elements of a Haiku poem today. Next week we will be making a Haiku tunnel. I will post pictures so you can check those out.

Stay warm!
