To Kill a Mockingbird

Image
8th grade is reading To Kill a Mockingbird.  They do daily comprehension questions and worksheets focused on literary elements.  However, for chapter 3 they had to write a rhyming summary with a picture to go a long with it. They all did a great job! This is Spencer's summary.

The Outsiders

The 6th grade is slowly finishing up The Outsiders. They are LOVING this book. Next week we will finish then watch the movie. I had the kids pick out their favorite event in the book. They then read through the page and studied the words. After thinking about the words they were to write a poem by circling words that stood out to them. However, the poems had to relate or symbolize the story. They then drew pictures around the words/poems that go along with the meaning of the poem.                                              The circled words make up the words of the poem! They also made story cubes. On each side of the cub is a literary term. So, for protagonist they had to draw the character that is the protagonist in the story. They turned out pretty cool!

8th Parents' Reminder

Just a reminder that Sally Woods would like have a few pictures of your child for graduation.  She needs 5-6 individual pictures of the kids and they can be school related or not and of any age.  You can e-mail those to her at swoods@corningcsd.org, or e-mail them to me and I can forward them to Sally. Also, Monday is the deadline to send money with kids if you are wanting to go the ICubs game on the 12th of May for their class trip.  Have a nice weekend!

The 6th grade was asked to help the kindergarten and preschool with a little STEM learning and building today! The 8th grade did a segregation activity on Monday as a pre reading activity for To Kill a Mockingbird.  The red group on the left was a little happier with how they were treated than the green group on the right.

What's New

Parents,  ITBS will be held the week of the 11th due to the delay of the delivery of tests. If you plan on bringing snacks hold off for week. Thanks! Here is what is happening... 6th Grade just got done with their writing process of their personal narratives. I am excited to read these. This class has grown tremendously in their writing skills! One more paper to go before the end of the year! They will be out of their textbooks for the rest of they year. On Monday they will start reading The Outsiders and will have a reading packet with different activities and comprehension that they will go along with the book. After we finish that it will be time for their research paper! That is a slow process so the information can really sink in. 7th Grade is on their way in Shoeless Joe. I think it is a little slow right now but it will pick up in the next section we read. They also have a reading packet that goes a long with the novel. I am creating this packet so they are getting it pi
