Haikus!

All three grades are/will be learning about Japanese poems called Haikus. Haikus are generally about nature and have the form of 5:7:5. 5 syllables on the first line, 7 syllables on the second line, and 5 syllables on the third line to have a total of 17 syllables in the whole poem.

The sixth grade made Haiku tunnels. Here are a few pictures of the tunnels. The back of the tunnel is a picture of what the student wrote their Haiku about. They were to have two 3-D elements in their tunnel to match their picture.

The first card is the title followed by the first, second and third lines of the Haiku.

Notice the bear's 3-D ears and feet? How cute!

All of the 6th grade's tunnels, just in case they don't make it home. They are so cool so I hope all of you parents can see them!

7th Grade: This class is in the process of creating their Haiku. They took notes yesterday and today they are water painting their scroll, which is what the Japanese traditionally wrote their poems on. They will have to write a Haiku to describe their nature scene. Here is the class painting during class today.

Danika and Sydney are having so much fun painting. :)
The whole class concentrating on their scene. ;)
