Hi parents!

A lot going on next week so here we go...

Tuesday the 8th grade would like to wear their class shirts. Please remind them, if you could. It's on my board but you know how that goes...

The 6th grade is having their Grinch Who-balation on Tuesday. This class will be filled with games, educational of course, and different activities surrounding the Grinch and Common Core. I will post pictures during break. It's pretty cute. :)

Wednesday is the finals of the GeoBee. We have several middle schoolers so stop by and check it out. We are doing it right after Mass, so 10:15.

Thursday...
The whole school is asked to dress festive for Christmas. In our wing that means ugly sweaters. If your child has an ugly Christmas sweater, Thursday would be the day to wear it! If not, it's totally fine!

The 8th grade is having a Moldovan Masa. Masa means table or party in Romanian. I like to do this to bring a little bit of my Peace Corps experience to them. We will have a little feast consisting of foods that would be found on a typical table during the holidays in Moldova. I teach them a few words in Romanian and we try to Skype my host mom back in Moldova. Her name is Svetlana and she is lovely and LOVES talking to the kids. I have asked the kids to bring some food, if you would not like to participate just let me know! I know this time of the year can get expensive!!
The kids are also doing their Secret Santa exchange at this time too. Stay tuned for pictures!!

The whole school will gather at 11:50 in the gym to sing Christmas carols which starts at 12:30, my favorite activity at St. Malachy!
The kids will need a sack lunch for this day, Thursday the 21st. They will be eating with their Advent Angels.
At 1:00 we gather our middle school kiddos and as a treat we serve them popcorn, hot cocoa, and a treat. While they are munching on popcorn we play a movie. It's pretty cute to see them all bunched together. I will take a picture of this too. (I will try my best to post pictures promptly.)
Thursday is a normal dismissal time. Then FREEDOM for almost two glorious weeks.

The 6th grade recently acted in two plays, "12 Angry Pigs" and "Terri the Turkey". Here are a few pictures of their acting debut. They did fabulous.
They recently moved into the poetry unit. They were a little hesitant about writing poems, but I think they are warming up to them. Every class truly loves the poetry unit so I see them loving it too...eventually.

The 7th grade has been busy with poetry projects. They first started with a narrative presentation. I asked them to pick a historical event and write a narrative poem detailing it. Some topics were the sinking of the Titanic, the assassination of JFK and Lincoln, and battles within WWII. All of the poems were very thought provoking and deep. Ask your 7th graders to share them with you! They then moved onto writing haikus. Traditional haiku is painted on a scroll so that's what the kids did. They present those today! Yesterday they were assigned another poetry project in that they have to make up a creature and describe it using figurative language and sound devices. Then they are making a 3 D model of the creature using a folder. I will post pictures when they are all done.

The 8th grade presented their poet Prezis this week. They did a nice job researching. They are currently working on a recycled poem. They are digging through magazines and newspapers and cutting out interesting words. When they have a pile they are to arrange the words into a poem. They are making a poetry book of all their work. That will be in their folders for conferences. Be sure to read those poems. They are so unbelievable, and I am not just saying that!
