Hi all!

Tomorrow there will be a noisy can collection at Mass.
Reminder that Friday we will get out two hours early due to Homecoming. This day is also a Spirit Day. So kids can bring $1 to wear sweat pants, and we encourage the students to wear their black and red to support the Panthers.
Monday the 2nd we will have an inspirational speaker talk with the middle school about bullying provided by the PTO.
NEXT Wednesday there will be a prayer service, no regular Mass.
October 13th we DO NOT have school nor on the 16th due to Professional Development.

6th grade took their first unit test yesterday over the elements of the story. The first 5-6 weeks of school are a learning process. They did well on their first test though! We will be heading into unit 2 by focusing on the first and third person point of view.

Last week the 7th grade took advantage of the nice weather and played wiffle ball comprehension. They finished reading "Casey at the Bat", so I decided they should play a little game of wiffle ball instead of getting assigned a worksheet. They then wrote narrative poems that were similar to "Casey at the Bat". They took their first unit test yesterday and corrected today. We will be heading into unit 2 which is about point of view.

Last week the 8th grade read a narrative poem about Paul Revere. They found out that not all of the information within the poem was correct. So, to kill two birds with one stone, I had the students compare and contrast Revere's ride then make it into a poem. They actually were great! The picture below is two examples of the poems. Sorry, I didn't save it right side up.
They just took their first unit test today, so tomorrow we will correct then move on. Their next unit will focus on mood, setting, and imagery.

The 8th grade went to the St. Thomas More Center in Panora on Monday. Below are several pictures of them completing leadership activities. They had a great day learning about leadership, prayer, and reflection.

 Jacob's face!! Ha

We were very fortunate to get a visit from Sister Mary Vincent today. She spoke to the kids for 45 minutes about her daily life, her convent, and various stories of her life in Australia. It was very interesting and all of the kids really enjoyed listening to her!
