Hello Parents,

 Tomorrow is a Spirit Day.
Monday WE do NOT have school; however, the public school does have school. It will be an A day on Monday so Tuesday will be a B day.

Thursday the middle school is going to the State Capitol building. Flyers were sent home today.

Friday is Invention Convention. Mr. Scar sent a note home today. Parents are welcome to visit the Invention Convention from 1-3 Friday in the gym. Hope to see you there!

Tonight is the MANDATORY 8th grade parent meeting at the high school. Be sure to bring your class schedule with you to hand it in. Parents must sign this!

8th grade just started "To Kill a Mockingbird". The first several chapters are a little slow until the plot starts to pick up. They have a literary packet full of comprehension questions, literary element worksheets, etc...
We have also just started  on the yearbook. I am hoping we will have this submitted by the first week of May.

7th grade just finished the 3rd chapter of "Night" by Elie Wiesel. They are really liking it and cannot believe it is a true story. We are having a lot of great discussions. They are slowly getting their packet. I am making the packet myself, so it's a go as we read kind of thing.

6th grade is in their 3rd chapter of "The Outsiders". I think they will LOVE this book. So far, so good. The plot hasn't quite picked up, but it will in the next chapter or two.

The 8th grade did a segregation activity. The group on the left were reds and the group on the right were greens. The reds were last in everything, they couldn't talk to the reds, and I even had teachers talking down on the reds and praise the greens. The next day we had a great discussion on it. This helped prepare them for "To Kill a Mockingbird".

The 7th grade made "blackout" poems. These are copies of Anne Frank's diary. They copied one page of her diary and circled words to make a poem. Around the circled words they drew a picture to symbolize their poem. These poems were to be based around some research they did of Elie Wiesel. Aren't they AWESOME?! They usually are. This class loves doing these!

Before we started TKAM, the 8th grade had to do one final project for "Animal Farm". "Animal Farm" was an allegory for the Russian Revolution, Stalin, and WWII. So, I created a project where the students had to create an allegory...for the allegory but with a popup book. They had to choose some part of the animal kingdom to represent Russia. Then they had to pick animals to represent Napoleon the pig who represented Stalin. And so on so forth. They had to have a 3D element on each page and write a scenario for each page.
These are some of the finished projects. They turned out AWESOME, I think. :)
