Catholic School's Week Newspaper Article

The 8th grade girls are staying busy conducting interviews and writing a newspaper article for the Catholic School's Week insert. The girls were to interview someone that represented Service, Faith, and Knowledge that attended St. Malachy or serves in our church. There are a lot of wonderful people that have been chosen for this insert. The rough draft is due on Monday. I encourage you to read over the article and help the girls with editing and revising and just to read them! They have great information, and I think when it is all said and done the girls will do justice in showing how great our community members are! 

The 6th grade are in the process of writing radio ads for Catholic School's Week. Their assignment for the weekend is to write a 15 second radio ad that explains why they like attending St. Malachy. We brainstormed a few ideas so we all wouldn't have "recess" or "lunch". I have to say, I am pretty impressed with their answers. They are all deep thoughts, and I am not sure that there were any "recess" comments. Success! Ask your child about them this weekend. They need to work on talking slowly! I will be asking for volunteers to drive the 6th grade to the station to do their recordings. A final date has not been set so I will keep you posted!

7th grade is their normal snugly selves. : ) Today we worked on analyzing photography. They learned about framing, composing, lighting, and mood in pictures. We analyzed photographers taken by Vivian Maier. I assigned them to take 5 pictures this weekend but remembering about angles and lighting. They pictures can't be posed. They all seem pretty excited about this assignment. On Monday we will analyze their photos that they took. Don't worry, it just with their phones or i-devices. They don't need to print pictures off!

 Hello!   Dates to remember:  March 24th: Spirit Day March 30th: 8th Grade Parents:: Freshman Orientation April 7th: No School: PD/Good Friday  8th grade: They have finished up their unit on the Civil War and the reconstruction era. They are moving through the Progressive Era. We are going to do brief units on the Roaring 20s, WWI, WWII, and The Civil Rights Movement. In religion we have been reviewing topics. They will have a standardized religion test on Monday that the Diocese proctors.  7th grade: They are currently working on creating the Oregon Trail, Santa Fe Trail, or the Mormon Trail. We are reading about the Westward Expansion and that cause and effect of those migrating west. On Tuesday they will learn about the Gold Rush. In religion, they are learning about Epistles and the letters St. Paul wrote to those who were turning their back on God.  Hi parents! Important Dates: Dec. 17: Spirit Day Dec. 21: Ugly Sweater Day Dec. 22: Kids needs to bring a sack lunch! Mass with the Bishop. Kids are encouraged to wear Christmas colors if possible. Christmas caroling starts at 12:30.  Dec. 23- NO SCHOOL CHRISTMAS BREAK!!! **The 6th grade and 8th grade are participating in secret Santa within their classroom. This gift should not be expensive. Just a little something. Also, many students give their advent angels a little gift. This is not mandatory. If your child would like to give a little something, that is fine! It doesn't have to be super expensive.  Here is what is happening:  8th grade: The 8th grade wrapped up their unit on the Civil War and Reconstruction Era. They are moving through the Progressive Movement. We will be spending a day or two on the Women's Suffrage Movement before moving on to World War I.  In religion they complete a "pilgrimage" of the stations of the cross.
