Halloween, Field Trips, and Reports.

Okay, okay, I am not the best at keeping this little guy updated. I will try to do better. To make up for my lack of blogging I come with pictures, if I can figure out how to post them.

6th Grade:
Their biography reports are due the 12th of November. We worked on the paper portion on Monday and started making our "person" yesterday. Building the person will not take too long, but I ask you parents to please read over your child's paper. This is their first formal paper. We have discussed the do's and don't's of a paper, but I know there will be minor mistakes they look over. I am excited to read their first one page paper!

Last week we took a break from our textbook and worked on a short story called "The Monkey's Paw". I just love Halloween so we did activities based around it and the story. They did a scavenger hunt, played BINGO with vocabulary words, read the story and compared it to the movie we watched.

We are currently working on theme, characters, and prediction. Theme can be difficult so tomorrow we will pause and reflect on what we have learned so far. We will be doing a sort of Olympics where they will be answering comprehension questions, games with teamwork, and races all dealing with what we have been learning so far. It should be fun!

7th Grade:
I am very impressed with the creativity the students put into their reports. Their costumes and presentations were awesome! They had a lot of fun presenting. Of course we had to take pictures!

This is a selfie of "Ellen" at the Oscars with Wyatt Earp, Vince Lombardi, Coco Chanel, Shirley Temple, and Princess Diana. Quite the crew!! Ha. :) Love this!

The 7th grade read "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe, my favorite. This class is in love with Edgar Allan Poe. They have asked me several times to read his stories and poems out loud during study hall, how cool is that?! They also did a scavenger hunt, played BINGO with vocabulary words, watched a movie, and read the story. We had a lot of fun.

They are currently working on theme, cause and effect, symbols, and fantasy. Today we are going to read an excerpt from "The Giver". They will take a personality test to determine what career they will have in the "community". We will have a "12 Years Assignment" where they will get their job for their community, just like the story! This goes along with the fantasy concept they will be learning.

8th Grade:
Oh, boy. We have been busy!

Last week the girls went to the Career Day at SWCC. We learned a lot of career choices that we didn't know were out there. We did some neat activities, but I am sure the girls will talk more about the boys than the choices for their future. Go figure! Big thank you to Ann Marie Powers for driving us!

The girls read "The Cask of Amontillado" for Halloween week. We had a special guest, Barb Coenen, come in to do an activity. The girls had a lot of fun discussing the short story with Barb and do the activity. Over the course of the year Barb will be no stranger to the 8th grade. She is in our "Book Club". She will stop by throughout the year to discuss stories and do activities. Thanks for coming, Barb!

The skeleton represents Fortunato who came to an unfortunate death after he insulted the family name of the Montresor's.

Look at these lovelies as princesses for Halloween!

The girls are about to read a lengthy short story on fantasy. We are going to cut the story into parts and do activities along with it for comprehension.

Things to remember:
This Saturday is the Spaghetti Supper.
Next Thursday is conferences.
No school next Friday.

Happy November!!!
