Pictures...

Phew, welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed your holiday season. I am kind of glad to be back in a normal routine. Here is what has been happening over the last several busy weeks.

Geography Bee! And the winner is.... GARON! Woo hoo!

The first, second, and third place winners.

All of the contestants.

The three 8th grade contestants.

The winner, Garon!

The winner with the boys. Note Andy... Oh, brother.

The 6th grade had a Who-bilation before Christmas. This day was spent doing fun, yet educational, games and activities based around "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". At the end of the class the students had to vote to see who was the Grinch and who was the Cheer-meister. Kyle was the winner of the Grinch and Reese was the cheer-meister!

The 8th grade has a Christmas "masa" which means table in Romanian. This is something I did often when I was in Moldova and I like to share it with my 8th grade students during Christmas. We all brought food and presents to share with one another. We talked, drank soda, and ate food that you would typically see around a Moldovan table during the holidays, with a few exceptions of course.

Ready to open presents from Secret Santa! So much fun!!

"Family" picture with their not-so-ugly/ugly sweaters.

Don't worry 7th grade parents, this class was festive too. They paraphrased scenes from "A Christmas Carol" and created their own little act. Some of the kids even brought props. Sadly I was wrapped up in the moment and did not take pictures. Sorry!!

What's next...

Both 6th and 7th grade are wrapping up their poetry unit. They are currently working on comparing two pieces of poetry. The 6th grade is concentrating on the tone of the poem and comparing that where as the 7th grade is concentrating on the mood of the poem. I predict their tests will be next week before moving into the myths and legends unit, which is a fun unit!

The 8th grade is hard at work on their newspaper articles for the Catholic Schools Week newspaper insert. The rough drafts are due Thursday the 12th. The inserts will be found in the newspaper during Catholic Schools Week, so stay tuned!
They will be starting "Lord of the Flies" on Tuesday of next week. Today they worked on creating a new civilization with a partner. I created a hypothetical situation in which they were the only survivors of a nuclear attack. Now it is up to them to create a new civilization. It is pretty neat to see their creativity.

Reminder:
January the 16th we do not have school.
Donations for the auction basket are coming in. Thanks to those you have donated so far! You aren't too late to donate!
8th grade shirts are $15. I still have a few that haven't paid.
