Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving Parents!
Barb Coenen stopped by for her monthly Book Club activity. This time she had the kids make "thankful" banners. They turned out super cute and you can see it below. They read Two Thanksgiving Day Gentleman by O. Henry. They kids seemed to like it because it involved a lot of irony.
8th grade has just wrapped up their informative speeches. They were to present on something they know quite well so they could present rather than read off of note cards. Everyone did a fine job! They will be finishing unit 3 next week, then we will move onto our poetry unit before reading novels as a class. They are really looking forward to both novel and poetry.
7th grade has been learning a lot about theme and symbols this past unit. They read Winter Dreams by F Scott Fitzgerald. It was a difficult read by themselves but we spent a day discussing the symbols in the story and they said that helped. Next week they will be reviewing recurring theme in stories and poems. They will also be wrapping up their unit to which we will be heading to poetry next. This class just loves poetry, which is awesome. I am also going to do class novels after Christmas break. They are excited to get out of the textbook and to do some fun activities with the stories we read.
6th grade has been learning a lot about theme and will learn about recurring theme next week. They wrote short fables and had to draw a picture to go a long with the theme. They turned out great and thy seemed to have really grasped the understanding of theme. Yesterday we spent the class doing Thanksgiving activities. We watched videos about people from around the world and their living conditions. I was hoping that these videos would get the kids thinking what they should really be thankful for. They also had so many questions about me living in Moldova for the Peace Corps. I think they were quite surprised but they seemed to have fun listening to my outrageous stories.
A reminder to all:
Today we get out 2 hours early
Tomorrow and Friday we will not have school
The 2nd trimester started Monday
I am working on final grades over break.
