Hi all! Just a quick note about what the middle school is getting into. All classes are getting away from the textbook for about a month, a lot of sighs of relief when I told the students that. The 6th grade will be reading Among the Hidden. The 7th grade will be reading The Westing Game. The 8th grade will be reading To Kill a Mockingbird, my FAVORITE! Since we are getting away from the textbook I plan on doing a lot of hands on activities, the students said they would like to do more activities so here we go!
We will also review a lot of literary elements we have learned so far this year like plot diagrams, figurative language, dialect, writing skills, and vocabulary! Everyday the students are to define the chapter's vocabulary and answer the comprehension questions. I will plan activities and discussions daily to get the students interested. I am so excited, and I think the students are too!

Here are some pictures of the 7th and 8thgrade playing Bananagrams with their vocabulary from chapters 1 and 2. I think they had fun! (Maybe because I gave candy to the winners!)

 Hello!   Dates to remember:  March 24th: Spirit Day March 30th: 8th Grade Parents:: Freshman Orientation April 7th: No School: PD/Good Friday  8th grade: They have finished up their unit on the Civil War and the reconstruction era. They are moving through the Progressive Era. We are going to do brief units on the Roaring 20s, WWI, WWII, and The Civil Rights Movement. In religion we have been reviewing topics. They will have a standardized religion test on Monday that the Diocese proctors.  7th grade: They are currently working on creating the Oregon Trail, Santa Fe Trail, or the Mormon Trail. We are reading about the Westward Expansion and that cause and effect of those migrating west. On Tuesday they will learn about the Gold Rush. In religion, they are learning about Epistles and the letters St. Paul wrote to those who were turning their back on God. They even wrote their own Epistles which are pretty good! 6th grade: They have their Ancient Rome test today and then will move on to

 Hi parents! Important Dates: Dec. 17: Spirit Day Dec. 21: Ugly Sweater Day Dec. 22: Kids needs to bring a sack lunch! Mass with the Bishop. Kids are encouraged to wear Christmas colors if possible. Christmas caroling starts at 12:30.  Dec. 23- NO SCHOOL CHRISTMAS BREAK!!! **The 6th grade and 8th grade are participating in secret Santa within their classroom. This gift should not be expensive. Just a little something. Also, many students give their advent angels a little gift. This is not mandatory. If your child would like to give a little something, that is fine! It doesn't have to be super expensive.  Here is what is happening:  8th grade: The 8th grade wrapped up their unit on the Civil War and Reconstruction Era. They are moving through the Progressive Movement. We will be spending a day or two on the Women's Suffrage Movement before moving on to World War I.  In religion they complete a "pilgrimage" of the stations of the cross.
