Field Trip

8th Grade Parents:
 We will be going on a little field trip on Wednesday the 29th. We will be taking a tour of SWCC for 8th grade career day. The girls are bringing home an information sheet. Let me know if you have any questions.

Parents,  The deadline for donations for the auction is this Friday! Anything is appreciated. Friday is a Spirit Day Students can bring Valentine's Day treats on the 14th if they would like. The 18th of February the 8th grade is going to Career Day at Swcc. More information to come. I will send out a permission slip sometime this week. The 19th of February we do not have school due to professional development. Classroom updates: 8th grade is just getting into their third novel, "The Hunger Games".  With this novel we are focusing on characterization. The 7th grade is reading "Night" by Elie Wiesel. They are focusing on several different aspects such as character development, analyzing dialogue, vocabulary, and much more. **Both the 7th and 8th grade are reading their novels off their Chromebooks.  Hello!   Dates to remember:  March 24th: Spirit Day March 30th: 8th Grade Parents:: Freshman Orientation April 7th: No School: PD/Good Friday  8th grade: They have finished up their unit on the Civil War and the reconstruction era. They are moving through the Progressive Era. We are going to do brief units on the Roaring 20s, WWI, WWII, and The Civil Rights Movement. In religion we have been reviewing topics. They will have a standardized religion test on Monday that the Diocese proctors.  7th grade: They are currently working on creating the Oregon Trail, Santa Fe Trail, or the Mormon Trail. We are reading about the Westward Expansion and that cause and effect of those migrating west. On Tuesday they will learn about the Gold Rush. In religion, they are learning about Epistles and the letters St. Paul wrote to those who were turning their back on God. Hey Parents,  Here are a few things:  Tomorrow is a Spirit Day so the kids can wear sweatpants for $1! Tomorrow is also an optional sack lunch day. Hot lunch will be provided if your child chooses not to bring a sack lunch. A run down on what we are doing in language arts: 8th grade just started on the theme of the story and how stories can contain symbols. We just reviewed through the first few units because the class felt confident in knowing the material, so did I so we moved on. Tomorrow they will be researching different authors and creating symbols to represent that author's life. In art, the 8th grade learned about sugar skulls. I bought some plaster and molds so they are whipping up some plaster to mold a "skull". I couldn't find a skull mold so it's just a face that they will have to transform into a skull.
