Cross Walk ready
Parents,  Next week during the Cross Walk we ask that all students wear a white shirt, preferably with nothing written on it. The 8th grade will also be taking class photos on the way home from the walk. This week is Iowa Assessments. The middle school will be testing Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Next Thursaday, the 18th, we will have the Seder Meal and Cross Walk. No school Friday the 19th in observance of Good Friday.
8th grade parents,   Keep in mind that tomorrow, Tuesday, the mandatory meeting for all new incoming freshman is at 6:00 PM at the high school! Your child needs to bring their rough draft class schedule.  Also, 8th grade Mass will be April 3rd.

Parents,  Reminder that conferences are today! The 6th grade is well into their first novel unit. This unit comes complete with a packet that they will do gradually. They are reading The Giver  and seem to really enjoy reading it and doing activities with it. The 7th grade just wrapped up their novel, The Night.  We had great conversation with this novel, and the kids loved reading about Elie Wiesel's experience. The 8th grade just wrapped up their Murder on the Orient Express novel. I think they enjoyed the movie a little more than the novel. ;)   They will start to get into their theme unit and read To Kill a Mockingbird.  For art, the 8th grade made paper mache. It wasn't their favorite... :) The 6th grade took a break from reading to participate in "The Community". I created different stations that surrounded the setting of our novel. Stations could include "seeing beyond", "sameness", and their job assignments. They are having a...

Parents,  Your child should be bringing home a reminder about the Auction. The deadline for donations are due next Friday the 22nd. The theme is "Hometown". This year the foundation is asking us to proivde items rather than gift cards. Thank you to all of those who have donated so far! The 8th grade did a pre-reading activity to prepare them for Murder on the Orient Express.  They were each a character in an investigation. Each of them got some information and an alibi. They had to question one another to figure out who the culprit was. Only a few of the kids figured out who was it was! The Chamber of Commerce breakfast was reschedule from Catholic Schools Week to last week. The kids did a great job serving and chatting with chamber members. The 7th grade did an activity using their phones and QR readers to learn more information about the Holocaust. They will be reading the novel Night next week.  And the cutest Valentines anyone could...

Parents, we are now accepting donations for our auction basket, Hometown. Friday Feb. 1: Sunday Best: Grandparent's Mass 7th grade wrapped up their poetry unit. They finished it off by painting traditional Japanese haiku scrolls and writing their haiku on top of it. They are into their myths and legends unit before starting their novel unit. The 6th grade kicked off Catholic Schools Week a bit early by going to KSIB radio station to record radio ads, which can be heard all this week. They stated their favorite thing about St. Malachy. The 6th grade ended their poetry unit with haikus as well. However, they made haiku tunnels. Traditional haiku poetry is only three lines long with 17 syllables total. They generally focus on something in nature. Here are a few examples of their tunnels. They all turned out great! They recently started learning about myths and legends. Their next unit will be the novel unit where they will read two novels and write a research p...
