We had a few 8th grade students make it to the final round of the Geography Bee. They are: Jagger, Max, Denton,Olivia, and Kolbey! If you would like to watch your child participate in the finals, they will be December 18th directly following Mass. Tomorrow, Wednesday the 3rd, is a noisy change collection for our Adopt-a-Family. We are also collecting donations for the Food Pantry. The middle school is in the middle of decorating classrooms doors. The students will vote on their favorites next week. The proceeds go to a charity of the Civics Club's choosing. Don't forget the Christmas concert is tomorrow! We will not have school December 20 until January 1st due to Christmas Break. We will resume classes January 2nd. (Crazy to think it's that time of year already!!) I will be hosting a Christmas Masa (Masa= table in Romanian) the week we get out for Christmas break. I will ask students to volunteer to bring different foods that could be found on a Moldovan Chri

Parents, please be sure your student is wearing a coat to school. There are a lot of students wearing sweatshirts. Just a reminder that students wait outside before school and have recess outside unless the windchill is below 0. Anything above zero the students are outside! Dates to keep in mind: Spirit Day: November 15th Spirit Day: November 22nd Spirit Day: November 26th and this day is also the Geography Bee No School: November 27-29 for Thanksgiving break! (Hard to believe, I know!!) I am a tad late but here are a few photos of Halloween fun! I loved our Area 51 idea. The kids really did a good job with their costumes. The 8th grade read "Lamb to the Slaughter" for their Halloween short story. I was able to create a pre-reading murder mystery activity for them that involved clues, QR codes, and different stations that involved literary standards such as grammar. This activity was a warm up or background information before they read the story. I think they

Just a few pictures of what’s happening in our class...  The 6th grade gave their first speech with a presentation!  The 8th grade is focusing on mood, tone, and setting. Here they are solving a mystery by interviewing possible suspects.   A little late but Homecoming pictures! 😊
8th Grade Parents,  I sent an email with the link to signup for conferences. If you did not receive the email, the link is below. Conferences are November 7th this year. If these times do not work for you, please let me know. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f044da8ac29a4fe3-fall
Happy Homecoming! Thank you to all the families that attended Panther Pancakes. I thought it was a great success! Thank you to all parents who were helping with the Homecoming float. And the patience to all of those parents who had kids coming home with paint on their clothes. My apologies for that! 😖 Just a reminder that St. Malachy is open on Monday and the  public school is not. We will be closed the 25th of October while the public school is open. 8th grade parents please note that we are taking our class picture on Tuesday for the billboard. Students should wear their class shirts and have permission slips signed to walk to the depot. I think that's it for now. Have a great weekend!
Parents, On October 11th we are having Panther Pancakes in substitution for Muffins with Moms and Donuts with Dads. The pancake breakfast will start at 7:00 and go until 8:30 am. We hope to see you all there! The 11th is also a Spirit Day for Homecoming and school is being dismissed 3 hours early due to the parade. October 14th the public school is closed but St. Malachy is open which means no buses. October 18th Spirit Day October 19th is the Spaghetti Supper. This night your child may volunteer to work for Civics Club. The Civics Club is in charge of the carnival games for the supper. October 25th St. Malachy is closed for professional development The 8th grade is in a discussion on what to be for Halloween so we will keep you posted on that. :)

I introduced the 6th grade to EdPuzzle. This website allows me to upload educational videos and edit them with questions and comments. As students watch the video, questions pop up to monitor their understanding. The 6th grade was learning about the importance of stage directions in plays, so I had them watch a few minutes of a Grinch the Musical and analyze the stage directions.  So Sorry! I forgot to upload pictures from Wellness Day last week. The kids had a blast, and it was so neat to see McKinley Park being utilized! The middle school had so much fun kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. Everyone was being active! I absolutely love this picture. Jack is just enjoying life...even after the canoe tipping. Denton is the speck in the back of the lake. He had to use his kayak to pick buoys up for Ms Lesan. He was waving while taking this picture. :)

Reminder:  Tomorrow' Mass is at 9:30 rather than 9:15. Friday the 27th is a Spirit Day The 29th is the Color Run. You can still sign up today! October 11th is a 3 hour early out due to Homecoming The 8th grade is well into their first novel Animal Farm . Next we will already have it finished since it's a shorter novel. They will take a test then do a project over allegories.  Their class shirts should be here any day now so be on the look out for those!  The 7th grade is focusing on point of view and characterization. They did an Instagram poster depicting a character or someone famous with the focus of characterization. I am super please how they turned out. Here are just a few of them! Pretty awesome!! (Okay so I don't know how to rotate it... ha!) The 6th grade will be taking their first test tomorrow! We have work hard on the plot diagram and practicing reading strategies. I have been impressed on how fast they are picking up these concepts!

Hi All! Things to keep in mind: Friday the 13th is a Spirit Day. I told the 8th grade to wear Hawkeye or Cyclone gear in honor of the Cy-Hawk game Saturday. Sunday the 15th is International Food Fair. Your child may have volunteered to work the carnival games. Kids should be at the school no later than 3:30 to help set up. They should be ready to be picked up around 6:45. Thursday the 19th the whole school will be going to McKinley Lake for a day outdoors. Kids should be dressed in PE attire as they will be very active, and probably get dirty. Friday the 20th we don't have school due to professional development. Here is what we are doing in class: The 6th grade is focusing on the elements of a plot within a story. They have been reading a couple of different memoirs and are writing their own 6 word memoirs. These tend to be a bit difficult for the kids to limit their experiences to just 6 words, but it gets them thinking outside of the box and turn out great. The 7th
Okay, so I will have to work with Google Classroom. From my understanding, summaries weren't sent out. Let me mess with a few things and try this again. I will keep you updated...
8th grade parents,  We believe the Google Classroom summary is sent to you weekly and may come on Monday. I have a few parents scouting this out for me. If you don't receive anything by Monday afternoon/night, I will look into it so you get those summaries.
Don't forget: School pictures are Thursday!

Hi Parents, A few things... I invited all of you to Google Classroom on Friday. I will post a couple of things this week as a test run to see if you receive a Classroom summary of what I am posting. If you do not receive an email this week, please let me know and I will try to get you connected. Google Classroom will allow you to follow everything we are doing in class. 8th grade has Mass this Wednesday. Monday the 2nd of September we do not have school due to Labor Day. September 15th is the International Food Fair. Your middle school student may have signed up to work for this because the Civics Club is in charge of the carnival. September 20th we don't have school due to professional development. And just in case you wanted to see the cutest 8th grade class on their first day of school...
